Standing Sushi Bar: The Sashimi Haven

    March 15, 2016

    The Favourite
Standing Sushi Bar’s “Monday & Thursday Madness” deal ($3 for 5 salmon sashimi slices) is among the most affordable and popular sushi bars to get your sashimi fix. It is available 12-2pm and 6-10pm on Mondays & Thursdays.

The salmon sashimi may be a tad inconsistent when it comes to texture, size, and shape for fussy eaters. But for $24, we get 40 slices of thick, fresh, and juicy salmon sashimi with a side of soy sauce and wasabi; absolutely satisfying for sashimi lovers for both their appetite and pockets.

For rice fanatics, try Sunday instead to get up to a 50% discount on a wide range of Donburis options. The Chirashi Don serves generous portions of fresh assorted sashimi and is my personal favourite (after Monday & Thursday Madness deals of course). Considering that japanese rice costs $4 a bowl at Standing Sushi bar, the Chirashi Don on Sundays is quite a steal if rice is a must in your diet.

    The Experience

While a trip to is Standing Sushi Bar no gastronomical pilgrimage, the restuarant shines when it comes to serving value for money, and high quality, japanese food fare. The long queues on Mondays and Thursdays are testament to the popularity of “Monday & Thursday Madness”, so be prepared to queue ~ 15-30mins for a table during dinner hours. The store is particular about table turnover rates and the staff may request that you do not stay beyond a stipulated time. However, the staff are friendly and try their best to serve you better despite the high customer traffic.

    Final Thoughts

4/5. I had overall a great experience with Standing Sushi Bar’s “Monday & Thursday Madness”. The food value was outstanding and service was prompt. Great plus for convenience as the store is just a short walk from SMU.
