fueled by the gentle caresses of my forefathers and grandchildren.
Gliding, soaring gently - hush;
Here, keep mum and let the mute speak freely.
I am a product of everything, yet nothing,
all at once.
Viscous honey trickles between
blades of emerald, unbowed.
A gust of wind, volatile, breaks free of the restraints of civilization and grapples with the grassy core.
Nestled in the midst of City Hall and surrounded by the bustle of commercial life, we often seek a sanctuary – away from the constant clacking of heels against the marble floor, that become more cacophonous every time you hear them. Sometimes all that’s needed is a breath of fresh air, that’s not permeated by lemon-scented air fresheners. This poem expresses a happy place that can exist within us or without; a place we return to when the noises become too much. It expresses gratitude for simplicity in a world of complexity, and also touches on how we need to return to our roots (Nature being the root of all life) time and again to keep our sanity intact and attain tranquility. It is an ode to silence and simplicity, which we often forget in the pursuit of personal goals and dreams.
